Laura Eghobamien
Black Medical Scientific Network
Laura Eghobamien works as an Independent Scientific Advisor, utilising her expertise in early-stage drug discovery, acquired over 15 years in the industry, to assist small start-ups with cell-based assay design for biologics and small molecules, health and safety management, and grant writing. In addition, she runs a Community Interest Company (CIC) called the Black Medical Scientific Network (BMSN), which aims to enhance the visibility of marginalised scientists by presenting role models to inspire the next generation of diverse scientists. Furthermore, she actively advocates for marginalised scientists by providing opportunities for their work to be recognised and valued. The BMSN has secured several funds to support specific projects aimed at promoting diversity in science. In 2024, she received an invitation from the Royal Society to attend the 2040 Science Conference alongside esteemed leaders and policymakers to speak on the importance of diversity in science and the work that BMSN undertakes. She has also been featured on local radio stations and in several scientific journals.
She serves as a Non-Executive Board Member of CATS Global School, Cambridge—a leading independent school—and as a Scientific Advisory Board Member for the Technology Network Journal, a well-established online scientific publication with over 14 million annual visitors. Additionally, she is a Conference Director for ELRIG Drug Discovery, the largest European scientific conference serving the drug discovery community. She also sits on the British Pharmacology Society Engagement Committee, reviewing grants and scientific content for their annual meeting.
