Workshop

Enterprise is often framed as profit-driven, individualistic, and rooted in productivity and scale. For many marginalised people working or studying science, this framing can feel disconnected from lived experience, community responsibility, and the values that first drew them to scientific work. However, science is focused on making a difference, and the knowledge, skills, and cultural understanding gained from studying science can be very valuable for creating ethical and impactful businesses.

This interactive workshop invites participants to critically examine what we are in business for and to reimagine enterprise as a tool for impact, care, and collective progress. Drawing on my work as an Enterprise Coach at the University of the West of England and as founder of Mose Social Rising C.I.C., the session blends psychology, lived experience, and practical enterprise thinking.

Participants will explore how identity, culture, location, language, and discipline shape not only the challenges they face but also the advantages they bring. Through guided reflection and hands-on activities, the workshop helps participants turn scientific knowledge and useful skills into business and social enterprise ideas that focus on values, avoiding harmful or exhausting models.

The session challenges narrow definitions of success and encourages participants to see enterprise as a way of extending scientific impact beyond traditional pathways. It offers a supportive, accessible space for curiosity, confidence-building, and forward-thinking conversations about purpose, possibility, and responsibility in business.
