Submit a session idea
We invite you to submit your session ideas for Demonstrations/Skill-Building Workshops, Expert Panel Q&As, Workshops, Roundtable Discussions, and Career/Professional Development Sessions. These sessions should cater to a broad spectrum of topics relevant to life sciences, including academic research, practical skills, career development, and initiatives that address the unique challenges and opportunities faced by under-represented and marginalised communities.
Whether your focus is on cutting-edge research, advanced techniques in the lab, or strategies for professional growth, we welcome submissions that offer practical, actionable knowledge that participants can apply in their academic or professional pursuits.
Have a great idea but don’t want to lead a session?
If you have a suggestion for a session topic, workshop, or demonstration that you believe would be valuable to the Minoritised Life Scientists Future Forum but don’t want to run it yourself, we still want to hear from you! Whether it's a cutting-edge technique like CRISPR-Cas or a panel discussion on closing the ethnicity awarding gap, your ideas are important to us. Please email your suggestions to [email protected], and our team will explore the possibility of bringing them to life during the event.
Demonstrations/Skill-Building
These sessions should offer hands-on activities and practical demonstrations that equip attendees with new skills or enhance existing ones. The focus is on actionable knowledge that participants can apply in their academic or professional pursuits.
Examples: Techniques in molecular biology, data analysis using bioinformatics tools, laboratory safety protocols.
Expert Panel Q&A
Bring together a group of experts to discuss pressing issues, share their experiences, and answer questions from the audience. These sessions should encourage open dialogue and provide diverse perspectives on a range of topics, from navigating career pathways to addressing the latest challenges in life sciences research. Special consideration will be given to panels that explore the experiences of scientists from under-represented and marginalised communities.
Examples: Navigating career pathways as a scientist, addressing health disparities through research, strategies for securing funding and resources.
Workshop
Interactive workshops should engage participants in collaborative learning experiences. These sessions should focus on developing specific competencies, exploring innovative approaches to common challenges, or advancing knowledge in specialised areas of the life sciences.
Examples: Developing effective science communication skills, grant writing and proposal development, mastering new lab techniques.
Roundtable Discussions
Facilitate small group discussions on specific topics, encouraging participants to share their insights and experiences. These sessions should aim to generate ideas, build networks, and identify strategies for overcoming barriers in both academic and professional settings. Discussions that tackle the unique challenges faced by marginalised groups in the life sciences are particularly encouraged.
Examples: Mentorship and peer support networks, overcoming imposter syndrome, balancing academic and personal life, discussing recent advances in a specific field.
Career/Professional Development Session
These sessions are designed to equip attendees with essential skills and knowledge for career advancement in the life sciences. The focus is on providing practical advice and strategies that empower participants to successfully navigate their professional journeys.
Examples: Crafting an impactful CV and cover letter, strategies for effective networking in academia, navigating career transitions within the life sciences.
We encourage proposals that align with the goals of the Minoritised Life Scientists Future Forum to inspire, empower, and connect participants from all backgrounds. Sessions should be designed to create an inclusive and supportive environment where attendees can learn, share, and grow together.
By submitting your session idea, you are contributing to a transformative event that aims to empower and inspire the next generation of life scientists. We look forward to your innovative and impactful proposals. Together, we can make Future Forum a success and create lasting change in the life sciences community.
